Let’s get started!

Step 1: Where to get the heart mold, letter mold, and mallet

I was able to get the heart mold, letter mold, and mallets from Amazon. They came together in a package and was exaclty what I needed to create the breakable heart.

Step 2: Melt chocolate

To melt the chocolate, I used pink Wilton Candy Melts.

I placed half of a bag of chocolate candy melts into a bowl and placed it into the microwave for 30 second intervals, stirring each time until the chocolate melted.

If the chocolate is thick, you can add some shortening, oil, or Paramount Crystals to thin it out.

If it’s too thick, it will be hard to spread around the mold.

Step 3: Pour chocolate into the mold

Once my chocolate was melted, I poured it into the mold and moved the chocolate around to cover the base and the sides.

I then tapped the mold on the counter a couple of times to make it spread evenly on the bottom and to remove air bubbles.

I then placed the mold in the refrigerator to set for a few minutes before adding a second layer of chocolate.

Step 4: Pour second layer of chocolate

Adding a second layer of chocolate will help the heart be strong enough to hold its shape so it doesn’t crush or crack.

Once the first layer is set, pour the second layer the same way you did the first, ensuring that the sides are fully covered.

You can use a spoon or popsicle stick to help you cover those hard-to-reach areas.

Don’t forget to tap the mold on the counter again so that the chocolate sits evenly.

Add more chocolate to the sides if needed, then place the mold back in the fridge to set.

Step 5: Remove chocolate heart from mold

To remove that candy heart from the mold, slowly and carefully peel away the sides of the mold.

Once the sides are loose, gently remove the mold from the candy heart.

Step 6: Decorate the candy heart

To decorate the candy heart, I drizzled white chocolate on one side of the heart and added sprinkles.

Be sure to add the sprinkles right away, as the chocolate will harden and it will be hard for the sprinkles to stick to it.

Step 7: Add a message

When placing a message on the heart, I used a letter mold.

You can fill the mold using a piping bag or a spoon, and scrape the excess chocolate away from the letter.

Place the letter mold in the fridge to harden, and then carefully peel it away from the mold.

To place the letters on the mold, put a dab of chocolate on the back of the letter and place it on the heart.

Step 8: Fill and box the candy heart

You can fill the heart with goodies (be careful when handling the heart because it can crush or crack).

I grabbed some goodies from the Dollar Tree that my daughter liked and placed them inside the heart.

You can also add some confetti or grass inside the box to make it more festive.

Where to get the treat box:

The treat box I am using comes from Amazon, and it is the perfect box for this heart, leaving some room to add any other little goodies. I’ve used this same box to make treat boxes for cakesicles, cupcakes, cake gems, mini cakes, and more.

Step 9: Smash the candy heart

To smash the candy heart, you can use a mallet or anything to break it open.

In the video, I used my fondant roller because that’s what I had available, but you can use a mallet.

My daughter definitely enjoyed smashing the heart and seeing her favorite goodies inside.

These breakable chocolate candy hearts are perfect for any age.
